Don Jose Tamayo is a fourth-generation
Yachak Shaman, who is regarded as
sacred by the community for his spiritual
wisdom. A Yachak Shaman is understood
to have a profound connection with the
Light of God, Mother Earth, and her Seven
Sacred Energies: air, water, waterfalls,
rocks, fire, plants, and birds/animals; and is
therefore able to guide humanity back to
that deep connection. In the same way that
the sun provides light to sustain biological
life on Earth, the Yachak Shaman provides
spiritual light to sustain the spiritual life of
the community.
